Optimists Recognize Members of the St. Clair Shores Fire Department

Just hours after fighting a fire at Gilbert's Lodge, members of the community joined with the Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores to recognize members of the St. Clair Shores Fire Department.

The Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores recognized members of theΒ St. Clair ShoresΒ FireΒ Department Thursday at theΒ First Responders Appreciation Breakfast at Lakeland Banquet Centre.

Members of the department, their families and leaders in the community attended the breakfast, which was sponsored byΒ 1800BOARDUP and Concraft Inc.Β

  • St. Clair Shores Fire DepartmentΒ Honor Guard Member Driver/EngineerΒ Chad HyvonenΒ for his leadership, guidance and support of theΒ FireΒ Department following the deathΒ of Lt. Jim Nichols last December.
  • Firefighter/paramedicsΒ Derek Haarala, Dan Sebastian and Adam WallemanΒ were honored by the Optimist Club of St. Clair ShoresΒ for their participation in this year’s American Lung AssociationΒ Fight forΒ Air Climb Firefighter Challenge.Β  These firefighters donned their full gear and climbed the more than 1,000 steps at Detroit’s Renaissance Center in March raising money for the American Lung Association.
  • The St. Clair Shores Fire Department recognized the retirement of Water Jenuwine.
The fire departmentΒ breakfast is one of many events organized and sponsoredΒ by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores including children's events, scholarships, volunteer efforts and a police department recognition breakfast.
