Adjournment request

The attorney for a 29-year-old St. Clair Shores man accused of supplying a lethal dose of heroin to his estranged wife requested an adjournment to review new discovery and further plea negotiations. Attorney Steven Freers requested the adjournment Wednesday for a pretrial hearing for his client, Nicholas Barczi. He is arguing that his client did not cause the July 14 death of his estranged wife. Barczi will be back in court on March 3. Barczi is one of the first people to be charged in Macomb County with delivery of a controlled substance causing death, a life felony. Investigators allege that Barczi and his estranged wife drove to Detroit to purchase heroin before returning to his apartment on Little Mack, where his estranged wife took the fatal dose of heroin.
