Police Department Gets New K-9 Officer
Two-year-old Axe has been training with officer for six weeks, ready to hit the streets soon.
(Originally posted on Dec. 15, 2016) ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — The St. Clair Shores Police Department has a new officer, a 2-year-old German Shepard named Axe, the St. Clair Shores Sentinel reported. The new canine officer has been working with Officer Tom Price for about six weeks.
“He’s doing great. He’s picking up everything quicker than I am,” Price told the St. Clair Shores City Council at a recent meeting.
The dog is the namesake of Navy SEAL Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Axelson, a 29-year-old resident of Cupertino, California, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005.
