Bodies Believed to Be Missing Lake St. Clair Duck Hunters Recovered: Update

Multiple agencies, including the Macomb County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit an the U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards, were involved in search.

Updated. LAKE ST. CLAIR, MI — The bodies of two men have been recovered from Lake St. Clair and a presumed to be those of the two missing duck hunters from Jackson County, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said Sunday afternoon. The men's bodies were recovered in Canadian waters, approximately 4 miles from Seaway Island. Their boat was located in the same area.

The circumstances of their death were not clear.

Multiple agencies are searching Lake St. Clair in Macomb County for a father and son who were due back Saturday from a duck-hunting excursion, but never returned to their Jackson County home, according to police.

The sheriff's office Marine Unit was among multiple agencies that searched Lake St. Clair after Timothy Hughes, 59, and his son, Daniel Hughes, 24, did not return as expected Saturday from a duck-hunting excursion on Lake St. Clair.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said in a news release Sunday morning that his department received a teletype earlier around 2 a.m. from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, which said the two men left their home in the early-morning hours of Saturday and their return was long overdue.

Macomb County authorities located the pick-up truck and boat trailer belonging to the two men at the Lake St. Clair Metropark Boat Launch, according the release

Multiple police agencies participated in the search and rescue operation, including the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Canadian Coast Guard.
