Suspect Who Fled From St. Clair Shores Police Hospitalized

A juvenile who allegedly was driving a stolen minivan that crashed into a third vehicle in Detroit remained hospitalized Monday afternoon.

Police are continuing to investigate an , and chase, that began Sunday in St. Clair Shores and ended in a fiery crash in Detroit.

While on patrol on Harper, a St. Clair Shores police officer spotted a two vehicles that matched a description of recently stolen cars about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The vehicles refused to stop, according to police, and the officer followed the vehicles into Detroit.

The vehicles split up and the officer continued to follow a mini-van allegedly stolen out of Warren. As the pursuit continued, the van collided with another vehicle at Hayes and Bringart, near 8 Mile and Gratiot, in Detroit.

According to WJBK-Fox 2, neighbors pulled the driver out of the car as it caught fire.

The driver, a juvenile out of Eastpointe, fled and ran through a yard before he was caught, according to St. Clair Shores Police Lt. David Centala. He was arrested after a struggle with police.

He remains hospitalized Monday with puncture wounds to his hands from jumping fences.

The incident is under investigation, and charges have not been issued. Centala said there were also several attempted, and stolen, vehicles in St. Clair Shores Saturday night.
