The Catholic Transformation

There is a great deal of discussion among American Catholics regarding Pope Francis  I. Many really love him, but quite a few are disappointed in him. Here's the issue: in his brief tenure as Pope, Francis has written and spoken about issues that have divided Catholics. The Pope has said that too many Catholics - particularly Americans - are overly concerned with the issues of abortion, birth control, and homosexuality to the exclusion of caring for the poor and the downtrodden. He says that all these issues should be important to the Church and we should worry about all of them. He feels that  American Catholics have neglected their duty to the poor and broken. I find this fascinating. I am not Catholic but a while back I attended graduate school at a Jesuit university, Xavier University in Cincinnati. I became close friends with several of the Jesuit professors there, and they were saying at that time the same things that Pope Francis - a Jesuit, in fact the first Jesuit Pope - is now saying: Jesus came for the poor and hurting, not for judging someone on the basis of who they love and who loves them.

I do not feel qualified to have a position on this, but many readers of this blog  probably are. What do you think? If you are a Catholic, you must personally consider this controversy because you will be confronted with it in the future,
