CASEVILLE, MI — A Macomb County woman was rescued Sunday in Lake Huron after she drifted roughly a mile from shore on an inner tube, according to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the St. Clair Shores woman was tubing in Lake Huron in Sleeper State Park near Caseville at 5:40 p.m. when she began "drifting uncontrollably" out into Lake Huron and was unable to get back to shore.

Two kayakers were trying to help the woman, but the strong winds and current on Lake Huron prevented them from reaching her, officials said.

"Beachgoers are advised that water temperatures are still cool, especially the further you get offshore," Hanson said. "Hypothermia is very real during prolonged exposure and should not be taken (lightly). Always use caution when using beach toys on days the wind is coming from the shore. Even light breezes can be difficult to overcome without a paddle or some other type of propulsion device."
