Sturgis junior class wins Powder Puff first place with convincing wins (sturgisjournal.com) — Sturgis students and families packed the field Sunday night as the junior class powered through the annual Powder Puff football games to claim first place. The long-running tradition gave Sturgis teens a chance to shine under the lights, with plenty of school spirit, friendly rivalries, and big plays that had classmates and parents cheering from the sidelines.
2. A rural Michigan town lost its hospital. The impact goes beyond healthcare. (mlive.com) — With Sturgis Hospital now closed, residents must travel farther for emergency and specialty care, and many feel less safe without a local ER. The shutdown has also cost dozens of jobs, disrupted school families, and strained nearby hospitals in Three Rivers and LaGrange, raising big questions about Sturgis's long-term health access and economic stability.
3. Sturgis looking to bring new healthcare services to former hospital building – WLKM Radio 95.9 FM (wlkm.com) — City leaders in Sturgis are actively courting new healthcare providers to bring services back to the now-empty former hospital building. With residents worried about long drives and delayed care since the hospital's June closure, officials say they're exploring multiple potential partners and leads in hopes of restoring at least some local medical options.
4. Findings of investigation into Sturgis City Commission conduct leaves key questions unanswered (watershedvoice.com) — Sturgis residents now have access to a redacted investigative report detailing how Mayor Frank Perez and other commissioners handled serious allegations against former City Manager Andrew Kuk, and whether they complied with Michigan's Open Meetings Act. The findings outline charter and procedural violations by the mayor, recommend additional training, and leave key questions about Kuk's resignation unanswered, raising ongoing concerns about transparency at City Hall.
