Census 2010: Trenton's Population Dips Slightly

The latest U.S. Census figures for Michigan were released on Tuesday.

The city of Trenton saw a slight decline in population over the past 10 years, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Trenton had 18,853 residents in 2010, down 3.7 percent from 19,584 residents in 2000. The .

Out of the 43 cities or towns in Wayne County, 32 also saw decreased populations.

Some towns such as Brownstown (33.2%), Northville (35.5%) and Van Buren (22.3%) saw considerable growth, while other cities such as River Rouge (-20.3%), Highland Park (-29.7%) and Detroit (-25%) .

Trenton Mayor Gerald Brown said he was not surprised to see the decline.

"I knew there was going to be a reduction because that seems to be the trend," Brown said. "I don’t believe that our population is going to impact us at all financially."
