Community Corner

Family Literacy Night

Family Literacy Night  - "Steps to Becoming Better Readers"

Come and bring your children to Family Literacy Night.  Arthurs Middle School in Trenton will be hosting this family event to promote literacy in the community.  Children are invited to bring their parents, grandparents, and other significant adults.

Administrators and teachers will be presenting seminars for parents and children ages 15 months through 8th Grade. Parenting seminars include Trenton's Curriculum Director Ann Deneroff, with a superb presentation on the importance of vocabulary in the development of your child.  Laura Fleming, former GI teacher, current substitute, and the mother of teen quads, will present on "Parenting Teens with Humor".  Trenton teacher and Media Specialist, Lorna Hardin will present on "Selecting Books for Children". Teacher, Anissa Cobetto will present "Book Chats for Middle School Parents and Students". Teacher, Julie Grimmelsman will be addressing the "Common Core and What it Means to Your Child".

We have a variety of readers coming to share their favorite books with the children.  Principal of Hedke, Vince Porreca, Dave Schmittou, principal of Milan Middle School, Trenton's own Max Monas, Mike Oakley of the Trenton Police Department, members of the THS Football team, along with some of Trenton's best elementary and middle school teachers, are scheduled to read to the children.

You will be free to attend the seminars while our team of teachers will entertain your children with reading and crafts. Set aside this night to come and join the fun.  A.M.S. students will receive extra credit in their Language Arts classes for attending 3 presentations.  An adult must be on the premises with children from 15 months through 5th Grade.

Snacks will be provided.

If you need more information, please contact A.M.S. at 734.676.8700, or email Julie Grimmelsman at grimmelsmanj@trentonschools.com.
