This week begins a very exciting stretch in high school sports - the basketball playoffs.
With that in mind, I’m planning on dedicating this little column this week to the girls hoops teams who take the floor beginning Monday evening with the hopes of making a run at the game’s ultimate prize - a state championship.
What each of these local teams did in the regular season means little at this point, and with the one-and-done format of the state tournament - there is no room for a bad game.

I can’t stress to you enough how much fun it is to get out to one of these postseason ball games.
The intensity is wonderful, the atmosphere is incredible, and the tension is always high as every possession is so important.

With that said, let’s take a brief glance at the district round of the 2011 girls basketball state tournament.
- The Trojanetts travel to Gibraltar Carlson to kick off the state tourney, and they get the honor of playing a very tough Brownstown Township-Woodhaven squad Monday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.
- Should the squad get by the Warriors in the opener Monday night, they’ll square off with Southgate Anderson in the semifinals March 2 at 5:30 p.m. The district final, the team’s destination if they win their semifinal match-up, is scheduled for March 4 at 7:30.
