Hockey Team Preps for Title Defense
New and improved Pick of the Week takes sports fans back to the week that was, and ahead to the best matchups and events in town.

First of all, let me start out by saying a big “Thank You,” to everyone who e-mailed in response to last week’s column. The response was really good, and as a result, this little column is going to be better.
Please keep these comments, suggestions and ideas coming.
Without your help, I can’t recognize any of the outstanding efforts put in by athletes all over the area—from the little ones all the way to our senior citizens. Everyone has a place on Patch.com, and in this column.

- I would never be allowed in the city if I didn’t take this time to recognize the outstanding work of everyone involved with the MIHL Classic this past weekend. Once again, Trenton officials, residents and the team did the city proud and hosted a dynamite event of hockey. Kudos to all.
- In hockey action, the Trojans represented the host city very well winning a pair of games at the event and, just as importantly, getting a great tune-up for a run at another state title.
- Also, we want to wish former hurler, Anthony Bass, good luck this spring as the Wayne State University grad heads to San Diego Padres camp with the hopes of latching on with the club. We’re pulling for you, Anthony!
A Look Ahead
- Not to harp on one thing, but the boys hockey squad has a game against Dearborn Unified Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7:20 p.m. at home, that might be worth checking out. Coming off a good showing at the Showcase, Trojans coach Mike Turner has to guard against a lapse against a pretty spry Dearborn squad. If you didn’t get enough hockey this past weekend, then get to this one Wednesday night.
- Another game worth checking out is Trenton High vs. Allen Park boys basketball, Thursday, Feb. 17 at home, beginning at 7 p.m. I know this is “High School Hockeytown,” but the basketball action is worth checking out, too.
