Kudos to Track and Field, Prep Sports in Full Swing This Week

Baseball, softball and tennis teams offer fans plenty of prep choices for games to watch this week.

Well sports fans, the weather promises to be a touch better this week. So working under that assumption, we here in the Pick of the Week Department are going to bring to you a slate of upcoming games with the hopes that you actually might be able to see them.

The rainouts, delays and postponements have been nothing short of unprecedented and haven’t done much to get anybody fired up about the season.

That, however, changes this week.

We believe we’re going to actually get some games in this week.

But before we look ahead, we’re going to take a quick look back at some of the more notable happenings last week (of the few games that actually got played).

This past Saturday, the track teams took part in the prestigious Charger Invitational at Dearborn Crestwood High.

The weather was great and the running and field events were even better for Trenton High athletes.

The girls team, paced by Morgan Lambert, finished the event in fourth place out of 18 teams who took part in the event.

Meanwhile, the boys were equally as impressive, also finishing fourth at the event.

Devin Hoppe and Gabe Wykle were strong in the pole vault, finishing third and fourth respectively, while Tyler Hamilton was solid as well.

Congrats to both squads on a job well done.

Now, onward with our optimistic view of the week ahead:

  • With the weather turning a corner (fingers crossed, anyhow) we at POW strongly encourage you to get out and catch some baseball and softball action this week, beginning with the baseball team Wednesday afternoon against Kennedy. The first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at Trenton High.
  • At the same time, on the same day, against the same team at the same place, the softball squad from Trenton High hits the diamond. If you time it right, you could probably catch a little of both games Wednesday afternoon.
  • Thursday, head out to the tennis courts at the school and get a glimpse of the girls tennis team against Carlson beginning at 4 p.m.
