Marauders Rough Up Trojans

Rebounding and defensive pressure overwhelm young Trenton

The Trojans started Tuesday night’s game against Carlson shorthanded with head coach Rick Morrow at home sick, and could not catch up to the Marauders after falling behind early.

The visitors beat the home team convincingly, 69-51.

Taking the helm for the Trojans in place of the flu-ridden Morrow was Jay Babyak, head coach of the Trenton junior varsity boys basketball team.

“It’s just a bad flu," said Babyak. "He (Morrow) woke up this morning and couldn’t get out of bed. It (the coaching change) played a little role, probably. It’s tough to switch things up last minute.”

Leading the way for the Marauders was senior guard Paul Morrison with 18 points.  Junior big man Kyle Ready contributed to the scoring with 11.

The Trojans were led by a trio of sophomores in small forward Dan Hall with 16 points and Jason Zahran and Terez Smith with 7.

Carlson jumped out early and never looked back taking a 14 point lead into the locker room at halftime, and came out with a full court press in the second half which proved to be the knockout punch.

Carlson guard Daton Aaron frustrated Trenton ball handlers all evening and led his team into forcing Trenton into several turnovers. The biggest difference, according to Babyak, was the Trojans were beaten badly on the boards.

“We just got killed in rebounding tonight,” said Babyak. “That’s been a strength of ours all season, so it’s a little strange, but that was the biggest thing right there.”

The Trojans travel to Woodhaven Thursday night where they expect Morrow to be back on the sideline.
