Parents Receive False Attendence Calls From Trenton High School

A recent upgrade to the ParentConnect system used to contact district parents by sending them an automated phone call might have been responsible for the unintentional calls.

Due to a malfunctioning system, parents of students at Trenton High School received unintentional attendance calls Tuesday.

The calls were supposed to go to parents of students who have three or more absences, but instead the calls went out to every parent on the call list.

Superintendent Rod Wakeham said the call system malfunctioned and district officials are working to get the problem fixed.

Wakeham said he learned of the false calls after parents began calling the district office and telling staff members their students did not have three or more absences.

"We will make sure the next time we do one it will only reach the target students,” Wakeham said.

A recent upgrade to the ParentConnect system used to contact district parents by sending them an automated phone call might have been responsible for the unintentional calls, according to Wakeham.

High school officials sent out an email to parents to inform them of the mistake and encourage parents with questions about their student's attendance to "call Mr. Woodley for students with last names beginning with A – K at 734-692-4555 and Mr. Diroff for L-Z at  734-692-4536."

Parents who are not signed up for ParentConnect can do so by contacting Angey Wilson wilsona@trenton.k12.mi.us  at the Trenton Public School Board of Education or by visiting the district website.
