Registration Open for Wayne County's 8K Fun Run/Walk and Bike Through the Lights
The Nov. 18-19 events offer an exclusive preview of Wayne County Lightfest.

Participants in the annual Wayne County Lightfest 8K Fun Run/Walk and Bike Through the Lights events will be among the first to view more than 55 lighted, animated holiday displays, which have been converted to LED lights.
“This is a great opportunity to enjoy Hines Drive and Lightfest at your own pace with no vehicle traffic,” saidWayne County Executive Robert Ficano. “I encourage the public to experience these wonderful activities and all of our great family-oriented events offered by Wayne County Parks,” Ficano added.
The cost to register for the Lightfest 8K Fun Run/Walk and Bike Through Lights is $20.00 until noon on November 17. After November 17, late registrants will pay $25.00. Those of high school age and younger will pay $12.00 for each event regardless of when they sign up.

Both events take place in Hines Park-Merriman Hollow area, located at Merriman Road and Hines Drive in Westland. Long sleeve T-shirts and a glow-in-the-dark item will be distributed upon check-in and post race food will be available for all participants.
2014 marks 21 years of the annual Wayne County Lightfest, the largest and oldest holiday lightshow in the Midwest. The Wayne County Lightfest encompasses more than four miles of Hines Drive. Annual visits to Lightfest exceed 250,000. Several new displays have been added this year including a 40 ft. x 40 ft. abominable snowman with an 18 ft. tree and a 15 ft. x 15 ft. woolly mammoth.

Wayne County Parks will host its Lightfest Grand Opening at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20 at the Hines Park-Merriman Hollow area. The opening will feature music, entertainment, refreshments and a fireworks show for the public to enjoy. Through Dec. 31, Lightfest hours of operation are from 7-10 p.m. Monday – Thursday and from 6-10 p.m. Friday – Sunday. PLightfest is closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
