Sports Roundup: Shamrocks Silence Crowd, Beat Trojans and Scores For the Week
Revenge was not so sweet for Trenton as they were beaten handedly by rival Catholic Central.
After a six day postponement from the original game date and almost a month after the controversial loss to their rivals in their first meeting, the hockey team faced Novi Detroit Catholic Central Tuesday night in front of a packed house at the .
After all of the build up, the #2 ranked Shamrocks spoiled the party beating the Trojans 5-2.
With the television crew of the high school sports show “State Champs” covering the game, a rowdy Trenton student section of over 100 students and Detroit Red Wing coach Mike Babcock in attendance (his son, Michael, plays for CC), there was a buzz in the air that the Shamrocks quickly killed with three first period goals.

“That first period killed us,” said senior captain Josh McPartlin. “We hung with them after that, but we just didn't come ready to play to start the game.”
Catholic Central's Tyler VanNorman started off the scoring early in the first quarter followed with two more unanswered goals by Michael Babcock and Tyler VanAcker.

Trenton did try to mount a comeback in the third period with goals from Jonathan Miller and McPartlin, but it was too little, too late after CC had added two more goals.
“They were just the better team,” Trojan coach Mike Turner said. “They were visibly faster and stronger than we were tonight...we got what we deserved.”
Catholic Central kept consistent pressure all night on the Trojan defense, and junior net minder Blake Wojtala, outshooting the home team 39-16, and it could have been worse had it not been for a Trenton rally in the third.
Turner also pointed to penalties as an uncharacteristic downfall of his team.
“Very uncharacteristic for us (of the turnovers),” Turner said. “If we keep playing like that it's going to be a short playoff.”
The game had originally been scheduled for Feb. 2, but the snowstorm that swept across the Midwest caused school closings and consequently the game was postponed.
Trenton move on to play the 2010 Division 2 state runner-up Midland in the Trenton MIHL Showcase on Friday.
"It's a learning lesson," said McPartlin. "I'd rather have this happen now then in March."
