Sports Roundup: Trojanettes Lose a Tough One and Scores for the Week

Trenton dropped their final home game against Jefferson.

It was parent night Wednesday evening as Trenton and Monroe Jefferson faced off on the hardwood in a rescheduled contest. It was a back-and-forth battle all night, but in the end the Bears pulled off what many people in the Downriver League would consider an upset over the Trojanettes, 47-37.

After each girl greeted their parents on the floor as they were announced over the loud speakers, Trenton took the floor against a Bears squad looking to end what has been a tough season on a good note.

The teams traded buckets in the first quarter and Trenton found themselves ahead 15-13 after the first. The second quarter was more of the same except the Trojanettes had to go without one of their best players Brittany Hamilton due to early foul trouble. Trenton put a full-court press on the Bears and it seemed to disrupt their offense. Unfortunately, for every turnover that Trenton forced, it seemed they gave the ball right back to Jefferson.

Turnovers have been and continue to be the thorn in the flesh for the Trojanettes according to head coach John Biedenbach, although the team was much more aggressive on the boards.

The second half provided the similar brand of back-and-forth sloppy play that the first half did except the Bears got momentum in the fourth quarter, wouldn’t let it go and beat the Trojanettes by 10.

“It’s tough to give you any personal impressions of the game,” said assistant coach Lori Peterson. “It is just too frustrating. We never should’ve lost that game.”

Kylie Hayter had a huge game for the Bears leading the scoring with 20 points. Brittany Hamilton led Trenton with eight points and Julie Suyak had six.
