Sports Roundup: Trojans Dump Dearborn and Scores For The Week
Trenton takes the Pioneers to the woodshed in season's final home game.
It wasn’t even close. In the last regular season home game Wednesday night, the Trojans blasted Dearborn right out of the Kennedy Recreation Center, 8-0.
It was all Trenton right from the moment the first puck dropped. Trenton junior Mike Lesko had a great opening period scoring the game’s first two goals. Senior Kris Wilson jumped in on the fun scoring a little over six minutes into the second period off an assist from captain Josh McPartlin.
Then ten minutes later Joey Russo scored on a beautiful play. Russo had just finished serving a minor penalty when he hopped out of the penalty box and made a beeline right for the goal. It seemed no one noticed Russo coming out of the box except junior defensemen Cory Dunn who played a beautiful pass to Russo between the circles and the Pioneer net minder never saw the one-time shot coming.

The bad news for Dearborn is that the third period was worse. Already riding a 4-0 advantage into the final period, Trenton buried in four more goals before the game was called with about four minutes to play. Dunn scored twice and senior Carlo DeGrazia lit the lamp with five minutes to play. Two minutes later, senior Jonathan Mates ended the game on a nice pass from Jonathan Miller.
“We did what we had to do tonight,” said Trenton coach Mike Turner. “We knew we were playing a team that has struggled this year, but we were physical, we played hard, and we didn’t lose.”

If you thought your Wednesday night was rough, be thankful you weren’t the Dearborn goalie. Trenton bombarded the net all evening outshooting the Pioneers 31-6.
It was a memorable game for the players, fans, and especially for the Trojan parents. The Trenton players, as do many high schools across the country, use the final home game of the season to celebrate “Parent Night,” a night to honor the parents that drive to all those games and lug all those ginormous hockey bags around.
The team lined up on the ice after the first period and each player was able to greet their parents on the ice and hand mom some flowers as their family was introduced over the loud speakers.
Trenton will conclude their season with a couple of away games and then travel to Southgate Anderson next weekend for the district playoffs.
