Trenton Girls Tennis Draws With Carlson

In what seemed like the first blue-sky, warm-weather day of the young season, the girls tennis team came away with a tie against the visiting Carlson Marauders Thursday afternoon, 4-4.

Trenton got singles wins from No. 1 Megan Solano (6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 Gabrielle Wojtala (6-2, 6-3). Doubles wins for the Trojanettes came from No. 2 Danielle DiPonio and Mariesa DeSantis (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) and No. 3 Jordan Sutherby and Hannah Scharboneau (6-1, 6-2).

The nice weather brought out more fans and a solid effort by the Trojanettes.

"We are about in the middle (of the league standings)," Trenton coach Lynne Herman said before the matches. "And they are a little bit above us, so we'll see how we do today."

Herman said that she's pleased so far with her team, especially considering the players' youth.

"We lost 13 seniors from last year's team," Herman said. "That's tough to replace."

The Trojanettes move to 1-6-2 on the year and will be off until Monday when the Woodhaven Warriors come to town at 4 p.m.
