Trenton Native Anthony Bass Wins Second Career Start
Former Trenton High School pitcher goes five scoreless major league innings to get second win.

Trenton native Anthony Bass made his against the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, 100 days exactly since he made his last start. In his first start, Bass pitched well enough to earn his first major league win. Wednesday’s encore was every bit as exciting as the first start and then some.
Bass pitched five innings, only giving up two hits and one walk while striking out one, and the San Diego Padres provided four runs in the first inning allowing them to cruise to a 4-0 victory.
Staking him to an early lead appeared to give Bass a lot of confidence as he did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. Bass only pitched to 18 batters in his start, just three over the minimum with his time on the mound. He induced multiple ground ball outs, which helped him on his way to his second career win. Bass recorded 52 pitches, 34 which were strikes. The start lowered his ERA from 1.88 to 1.66.

Bass walked the first man he faced in the sixth inning, prompting manager Bud Black to emerge from the dugout and to the pitchers mound. After a short discussion, Bass handed the ball to Black and headed to the dugout, almost with a smile on his face.
The Padres will finish the season a week from today and Bass will return to his role in the bullpen for the rest of the year. Next year might be a different story, as Bass will look to join the Padres as the fifth starter.

Coors field is known for yielding runs, not avoiding them. Bass pitched a total of 10 innings this season at Coors Field and only gave up one run. That alone should help his cause to be the number five starter.
