Trenton Soroptimists Celebrate Their Members

2017 Induction and Awards Ceremony

More than thirty women comprise the club that involves the downriver communities of Trenton, Grosse Ile, Gibraltar, Riverview, Brownstown, and Woodhaven. This local volunteer group offers service by way of fundraising and donations, public awareness and educational programs, and hands-on assistance. The Trenton Area Soroptimists give their time and talents to local food pantries, Vista Maria, First Step, Stanford House, and to community women’s health institutions. They also promote public awareness and prevention of human trafficking and domestic violence. Their focus, as the name Soroptimist means “best for women,” is on empowering and protecting women and girls.

On June 26, the Trenton Area Soroptimists inducted four new members: Jillian Holloway, Bobbie Navarre, Leona Drugalis, and Sarah Hill. Many certificates of perfect attendance were given, as well as celebrating the milestones of 20 years (Sharon Kelly), 25 years (Linda Crisi, Nancy Nagle, and Barb Rigg), 30 years (Carolyn Sheck), 35 years (Dottie Brannon, Pat Gonyea, and Chris Speedie), 40 years (Pauline Arthurs and Sharleen Stack), and 45 years (Noreen Petersen). Cathy Infantado was presented with the “Key Member” award, and Pat Bryan was honored as the 2017 Soroptimist of the Year for her work in public awareness.

Midwestern region governor Vivian Walczesky presented the SI of Trenton Area president, Linda Crisi, with the 2016-2017 “Celebrating Success” award for the club’s work with the Vista Maria girls for the “Dream It, Be It” program. Visitors sharing in our festivities included District III director Darcy, District III secretary Mary, and former region treasurer Kathi.
