Trojans Join MIHL

Trenton hockey squad joins one of the state's top leagues

There’s big news in “High School Hockeytown.”

The Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League, arguably the state’s most competitive prep hockey league, welcomed a pair of new members to the fold - Wyandotte Roosevelt and Trenton High.

“I am looking forward to being a member of the MIHL,” Trenton coach Mike Turner said in a release. “We know what to expect in terms of competition as we already play half of the teams in the MIHL. We look forward to playing the rest of the MIHL teams and developing rivalries with them. This move should make it possible for our program to compete at the highest level and the competition will continue to develop our players. We are proud to be a part of the MIHL and its initiatives.”

“As a league, we thought the time was right to expand as we continue to adjust to the changing landscape of high school hockey,” MIHL president Andy Weidenbach said. “Both schools will help to maintain the MIHL as one of the strongest leagues in the state.”

Both squads will begin MIHL play in 2011-2012 season.
