A seasoned boys team was just five strokes away from qualifying for the Division 2 state finals.

The Trojans shot 323 during the June 9 regional tournament at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club, good for a tie for fourth place with Harper Creek in the 12-team event. The top three teams advanced to the state championship round.

Dexter (311), Tecumseh (313) and New Boston Huron (318) took first, second and third, respectively. Rounding out team play were Trenton, Harper Creek, Dearborn Divine Child (327), Charlotte (333), Chelsea (334), Mason (335), Riverview (344), Milan (349) and Gibraltar Carlson (375).

The regional tournament ended another outstanding season for Trenton, which was 9-0 in the Downriver League and won the Carleton Airport tournament. No team has beaten the Trojans in league play the last two years.
