2 Dead After Head-On Crash In Brandon Township: Sheriff

Police said two Brandon Township men died Tuesday when the vehicles they were driving crashed head-on.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Two people died Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash in Brandon Township, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

According to police, Clyde Alvis, Jr., 71, and Kenneth Kauffman, 52, both of Brandon Township, died when the vehicles they were driving crashed head-on around 12:23 p.m. Tuesday on South Ortonville Road, north of Oak Hill Road.

Police said Kauffman, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox north on South Ortonville Road, crossed the center line, crashing head-on into a 2009 Ford F-150 driven south by Alvis.

Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash, police said. Each driver had been wearing their seat belt, police said. There were no passengers in either vehicle, police said. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash, according to police. It is unknown at this time why the Chevrolet traveled into the oncoming traffic lane, police said.

A crash reconstruction unit and the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and began their investigation Tuesday, police said. The medical examiner’s office took possession of the deceased and autopsies are pending, police said.
