21-Year-Old Woman Dies In Sterling Heights Crash On M-53: Police

Authorities believe a drunken driver struck the woman's car on Michigan 53 between 18 and 19 Mile roads, forcing both cars off the road.

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — A woman was killed in a Thursday morning crash on Michigan 53 in Sterling Heights.

Police said the 21-year-old woman from Dayton, Ohio, was driving a Nissan north on Michigan 53 between 18 and 19 Mile roads at 12:45 a.m., when the driver of a black 2005 BMW sedan lost control of his car and struck the Nissan, forcing both of them off the road.

Officers said they found both cars just north of the Clinton River overpass near the football field at Henry Ford II High School.

Both drivers were taken to a nearby hospital, where the woman died from her injuries, officials said. The driver of the BMW suffered serious injuries, but was listed in stable condition Thursday morning. Authorities also said they believe the driver of the BMW was drunk.

Northbound Michigan 53 at 18 Mile Road was closed for several hours while officials investigated the scene.
