Troy Police said a concerned neighbor saw the group knocking on a neighbor’s door and peeking through the home’s windows before walking to the backyard at a home on the 3000 block of Newgate.

One of the suspects was seen carrying a ladder, and another was wearing a yellow safety vest, as the concerned neighbor called 911, police said.

The group fled from the home before officers arrived, but a tipster told police the group drove away in a black Kia Sorento, police said.

Officers determined the group tried breaking into the home after finding pry marks along the rear sliding door and door frame, which was damaged and bent, police said.

Officers then found and stopped the black Kia, which had a California license plate, along Interstate 75 south of the Big Beaver entrance ramp, police said.

Police found four people in the car, along with a yellow safety vest on the rear floorboard and a ladder, police said.

Investigators also found packaged items hidden under the center console and engine compartments while conducting a search warrant of the car.

Authorities determined the items were stolen from a home in Missouri earlier this month, police said.
