8K DTE Customers Without Power

As much as 2.5 inches of rain fell on Metro Detroit Monday, causing flooding on area freeways including I-696.

METRO DETROIT, MI — About 8,000 people in Metro Detroit remain without power as of 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to DTE Energy. Outages are scattered, but Farmington Hills, Southfield, Clawson and Hazel Park show the highest number of DTE customers without power, according to the company’s “outage map.”

An exact cause of the outages is unknown, but heavy rain likely had something to do with it. As much as 2.5 inches of rain fell on parts of Metro Detroit on Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Another half-inch of rain is expected Tuesday.

The National Weather is calling for scattered showers Tuesday, including a thunderstorm after 1pm. Skies will be mostly cloudy and the high is expected to hit 74 degrees. Rain is expected to stop around 9 p.m. and Wednesday looks mostly sunny with a high of about 81, the Weather Service predicts.

Monday’s storm caused temporary flooding on some Metro Detroit freeways. The Michigan Department of Transportation reported that portions of I-696, the ramp to Southfield Road from I-96, westbound M-59 at Mound Road and I-75 and Woodward Heights were all cleared of water by about 9 p.m. Monday.
