Corewell Health Plans $1.7 Billion Expansion Across Two Michigan Hospitals (24x7mag.com) β Corewell Health plans a major $440 million expansion of Beaumont Troy Hospital, adding an eight-story tower with 180 private rooms, expanded emergency space, and modernized surgical facilities. Construction is expected to start in 2027 and finish by 2030, significantly increasing capacity for Troy-area patients who already rely on the consistently busy hospital.

Detroiter admits to stealing from Troy gas station, fighting when confronted (theoaklandpress.com) β A 31-year-old Detroit man has pleaded guilty to assault and retail fraud after stealing food from the XO Liquor/Shell gas station on East Maple Road in Troy and fighting with the clerk and two landscapers. Troy police say the landscapers suffered significant injuries, and the man now faces misdemeanor sentencing in 52-4 District Court on Oct. 13.

Hyperbaric Explosion Death of Boy, 5, Leads to Sentencing of Safety Director, as Judge Slams 'Arrogance' (people.com) β A former safety director has been sentenced to 19 months to 15 years in prison after a hyperbaric chamber explosion at The Oxford Center in Troy killed 5-year-old Thomas Cooper. Prosecutors said the facility failed to use grounding straps required for safe hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and several other officials still face criminal and civil cases over the tragedy.

DOJ revives federal gun rights restoration program for the first time in over 30 years (wxyz.com) β A Troy-based attorney is among the first in the country helping non-violent felons apply to restore their federal gun rights under a newly revived U.S. Department of Justice program. Starting November 4, up to 5,000 eligible applicants nationwide can seek review, though state-level restrictions still apply. The firm will explain the process at an October 10 session in Ferndale.
