As the members of the Athens Theatre Company head into final rehearsals in preparation for their fall musical, Disney’s Newsies, they are excited to welcome a very special guest for their upcoming Master Class on October 30. Ben Fankhauser created the role of Davey in the original Broadway production of Newsies in 2012, and will have a lot of insight to share with Athens’ actors about the show, and the importance of understanding the characters and the time period in which the musical takes place..
Said ATC Director, Krista Manfredi: “I am thrilled for the opportunity for my cast and crew of Newsies to have a Master Class with Ben Fankhauser, who created the role of Davey in the Broadway production of Newsies.”

Newsies the Musical is inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, and tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. Newsies the novel was written by Harvey Fierstein, and the show’s score features music by Alan Menken with lyrics by Jack Feldman
Performance dates for Newsies the Musical. are Friday November 15, Saturday November 16, Friday November 22 and Saturday November 23 at 8:01 pm, and matinee on Sunday, November 24 at 3:00 pm.
