The Troy Athens Cheer Program hosted it's 8th annual K-6 night on Friday, September 7th and welcomed a record breaking 171 athletes!! K-3rd graders cheered with the varsity and JV cheer teams during the first quarter, while 4-6th graders cheered during the 3rd quarter.
"I remember being in third grade and coming to this event. All I wanted was to be a Troy Athens Cheerleader so being on the other side now is very cool,” said Junior, Kira Crumpley. Senior, Emily Schwab, agreed, "I love seeing all of the little girls having so much fun and sharing an interest that is so close to my heart. Seeing them look up to us and how excited they are about everything reminds me of myself and my first days on the sidelines. It's a chance to for us to relive our early days and give back to our community."
For Varsity Cheer Coach Kaja Clark, the reward is seeing the growth in her program: "It's crazy to me that eight years ago we started with 23 kids. It's grown every single year since then and we're always looking for ways to make it a bigger and better event. I love that we're getting to the point where so many of our high school athletes actually participated while they were in K-6th grade. They get to see it from the other side now and now they're the ones kids are looking up to. We have a great program with really fantastic kids that we are really proud of and are always so excited to share it with the next generation."
