Troy Athens Charity Week 2019 – High school students are raising $100,000 (and more) for charity!
Troy Athens High School is getting ready for one of Michigan’s largest high-school student led charity campaigns! The student body will be raising money and awareness during February 11-15, 2019, in order to reach this year’s goal of $100,000 during Charity Week. This year we have chosen FOCUS Detroit. With almost 60% of Detroit children living in poverty, FOCUS Detroit empowers children experiencing poverty by partnering with schools and communities to combat poor academic achievement, under resourced schools, substandard housing, and lack of access to basic needs. The organization provides unique and creative programs to diminish the cycle of poverty.
Various activities for students are planned to raise money and awareness during Charity Week. For example, students will kick off the week with a “Comfy” spirit day and pancake breakfast prepared by parents. Another event during the week, Jail‘n’Bail, allows students to place warrants on themselves, their friends, or their teachers; as a result, they are “arrested” during class and placed inside a “jail” which has snacks and games for students to enjoy.

Other events include a carnival night, a staff vs. students dance off, a “belly flop” contest, a volleyball tournament, hypnosis show, film festival, pep assembly, dance, and a parent cook-off followed by the Mr. Athens Pageant. The general public may not be able to participate in all the activities listed above; however, they can still be part of reaching our goal. If you believe in the work that the young people of Troy are doing to help this charity, please send checks made out to Troy Athens High School, Memo Line: Charity Week, 4333 John R.
