Avondale Scores Late Powerplay Goal to Beat Lakeland 5-4 During Holiday Break

Avondale's boys hockey team outlasted Lakeland Wednesday at the to beat the Eagle 5-4.
The Eagles outshot the Avondale Yellow Jackets 17-13 in the first but ended the period tied 2-2. Eagles goals came from Kyle Jakubowski (with assists from Walker, Farley) and Andy Stevens (with an assist from Anthony Kobak).
Avondale would take the lead 5 minutes into the second when Poston (with an assist from Spurlin) put the puck past Eagles goalie Mitch Leist to make it 3-2.
The Eagles would answer with a Bobby Shumacher (with an assist from Stevens) blast from the point on the power-play to tie it with 3:29 left in the second.
Lakeland took the lead on a Nick Kobak wraparound at the 15:25 mark of the third, but the Eagles defense would give it right back 29 seconds later.
A late period penalty by Lepkowski would set up the game-winning goal from Avondale's Poston.
Nicholas Senkowski made 24 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
Mitch Leist made 28 saves for the Eagles.
The Eagles fall to 1-2 on the season and will look to snap their two game losing streak this Wednesday night against the Walled Lake Western Warriors at Kensington Valley Ice Arena game time is 8 p.m.
