Baker College respiratory care program ranked 'Distinguished' second consecutive year

Auburn Hills campus grads have a 100 percent credential exam pass rate for 8 years and a 99.8 percent employment rate.

Baker College of Auburn Hills’ respiratory care program has been chosen to receive the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success award by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) for the second consecutive year.

Since 2008, 100 percent of respiratory care program graduates have passed the credentialing examination issued by The National Board for Respiratory Care. In addition, 99.8 percent of available graduates are employed, with many having earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and one each will soon earn a doctorate and a medical degree.

“This notable award signifies that our students are receiving training that inspires them to achieve their highest educational and professional aspirations,” said Peter W. Karsten, Ph.D., CPA, Baker College of Auburn Hills president. “This is essential not only to Baker College, but also to the many health care employers that hire our graduates.”

To select program award winners, the CoARC Board reviews objective criteria based on key accreditation metrics and data. These include outcomes and a documented credentialing success of 90 percent or greater. Programs must also hold accreditation without a progress report and meet or exceed established CoARC thresholds for certified respiratory therapist (CRT) success, attrition and job placement.

Respiratory care practitioners may find employment in hospitals, home care companies, physician’s offices, extended care facilities, outpatient centers, respiratory care equipment sales, or as educators in hospitals, colleges and universities. Therapists may choose to specialize in neonatology or pediatrics, sleep diagnostics, pulmonary function testing, rehabilitation, or critical and emergent care.
