BPMS Students STAND for March is Reading Month
Boulan Park Middle School students are taking a STAND—Students Taking A New Direction.
Boulan Park Middle School students are taking a STAND—Students Taking A New Direction. They’ve created a club that looks for opportunities for leadership, and for making their school and more welcoming place for all.
STAND is a student-driven club that is open to all students. This means students propose and decide on projects they’d like to do. STAND members are currently working on two activities for March is Reading Month:
The first one is called “Positive Post-its - students are writing positive and inspirational messages, riddles, etc. on Post-it notes and will be putting them inside some the books in the media center. The idea is that while a student is reading the book, they will find the Post-it and hopefully the message on the Post-it will brighten that student’s day.

“It’s a lot of work, writing out all these post-its, but if they put a smile on a fellow student’s face and make them have a better day, our job will be worth it,” said student Hajra Ahmad.
The second project also takes place in the media center. STAND members will produce bookmarks for students to take when they are checking out a book. Some of these will be designed by students and other bookmarks will be templates that students color. “There are so many students at Boulan Park who love to read and we are creating bookmarks they can use as they read their books,” said Ashley Roselynn Vincent. And they may even put a smile on another student’s face.
