County Casual Day Raises Record $7K for Fallen Trooper's Family
Employee Casual Days typically raise $300-$400, but support for family of trooper killed while on duty in Oakland County "overwhelming."

Oakland County employees dressed down for a good cause earlier this month and raised a record $7,000 for the family of Michigan State Police Trooper Chad Wolf, who died Aug 28 while on patrol in northern Oakland County.

Wolf, who was patrolling on his state police motorcycle, was struck by a vehicle towing a trailer and dragged several miles on interstate 75.
The county’s Special Casual Days typically raise $300 to $400, and in some cases have raised up to $2,500. They’re typically held for county employees who need assistance.

“We normally reserve Special Casual Days for county employees who need assistance,” County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said in a news release. “But this was a special case of a state trooper who died patrolling Oakland County and leaves behind four young children. We just had to help.”
“On behalf of Erin Wolf and her children, the outpouring of support from the Oakland county employees is overwhelming,” said Michigan State Police Capt. Monica Yesh, Wolf’s district commander. “Their support is indicative of the kind of thoughtful messages and donations we have received from all over the United States this past month.”
The county’s Casual Day program allows employees in participating departments and divisions to wear jeans or dress casually on Thursdays or Fridays for a minimum donation of $1.
Since its inception 22 years ago, Oakland County employees have donated well over $700,000 dollars to various charities and causes, touching the lives of thousands of people. No taxpayer funds are used in the Casual Day program.
