Dog Bites Woman and More Reported to Troy Police

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Animal control

3000 block of Oriole, Aug. 18, 8:48 p.m.: Complainant advised she was out walking when an unleashed dog in its front yard ran up and bit her on the wrist. The owner of the dog was advised the report would be turned over to Oakland County Animal Control. Complainant to seek medical attention.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

John R Road and West 14 Mile Road, Aug. 17, 1:06 a.m.: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was detected to have a strong odor of intoxicants coming from her person. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 46-year-old from Warren was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .17 percent.

Rochester and East Big Beaver, Aug. 17, 11:19 p.m.: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle after receiving a complaint from witnesses the occupants of the vehicle was intoxicated. The driver was detected to have slurred speech and admitted he had been drinking at the Dream Cruise. The driver, a 31-year-old from Clinton Township failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

Interstate-75 and West Big Beaver Road, Aug. 18, 3:08 a.m.: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle after observing the vehicle weave out of its lane. Officers approached the vehicle and detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was observed with bloodshot glassy eyes. The driver, a 27-year-old from Waterford failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .11 percent.

Larcenies

2000 block of Van Courtland, Aug. 16, 5:30 p.m.: Complainant advised he left his wallet in a carrier on the front of his bike. When he returned to his bike, his wallet containing $150 in cash and credit cards was missing.

Marriott, 200 West Big Beaver Road, Aug. 15, 7 to 9:30 p.m.: Complainant stated he left his room and when he returned he discovered his laptop was missing. The laptop was valued at $1,200.

Larcenies from autos

Hubbard and Welling, Aug. 16-17, 11 p.m. to 9 a.m.: Complainant advised his landscaping trailer had been broken into and equipment was stolen. Complainant advised the side entry door of the trailed was pried open and 3 Stihl blowers, 2 Stihl trimmers and 1 Redmax edger were missing. The value of the equipment was $2,700.

Malicious destruction of property 

7-Eleven, 5020 John R Road, Aug. 17, 3:45 a.m.: Manager advised an upset customer intentionally smashed the front window to the store by punching it with his fist. Manager stated the suspect was denied sale of cigarettes and became enraged and punched the window.

3000 block of Alpine, Aug. 17, 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Resident advised sometime overnight someone threw a lit firework into her vehicle causing burn marks all over the interior of the vehicle. Resident stated she left the driver’s window open.

Minors and alcohol 

West Big Beaver and Civic Center, Aug. 17, 3:16 a.m.: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle traveling well below posted speed limit, causing a hazard. Officers made contact with the driver and immediately detected an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking. The driver, a 20-year-old from Ann Arbor failed field sobrieties and had a suspended license. Officer advised the driver he was under arrest and were able to get one handcuff on the suspect when the suspect began to resist arrest. The suspect complied for a breath test with results of .05 percent. The driver was arrested for operating with a blood alcohol content between .02 and .07 percent at under 21 years of age, driving while license suspended, and resisting arrest. 

Retail fraud

Home Goods, 624 John R Road, Aug. 16, 7:08 p.m.: Loss prevention officers advised the suspect was observed selecting merchandise and placing it in a stroller she was pushing. The suspect left the store failing to pay for the merchandise in the stroller. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the merchandise, valued at $110.87. The suspect, a 26-year-old from Redford Township was arrested for retail fraud.

Macy’s, 2750 West Big Beaver Road, Aug. 17, 11:52 a.m.: Loss prevention advised the suspect was observed selecting a purse, removing the price tags and placing it inside her own purse. The suspect then left the store without paying for the purse. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the purse valued at $118. The suspect, a 53-year-old from Troy was arrested for retail fraud.  

JCPenney, 700 West 14 Mile Road, Aug. 18, 4 p.m.: Loss prevention advised the suspect was observed selecting merchandise and placing the merchandise in a shopping bag. The suspect then left the store without paying for the merchandise. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the merchandise valued at $239.00. The suspect was arrested for retail fraud.

Target, 1301 Coolidge Highway, Aug. 18, 8:51 p.m.: Loss prevention advised the suspect was observed selecting merchandise and concealing it down the front of his pants. The suspect then left the store without paying for the merchandise. The suspect returned to the store and presented the stolen merchandise for return. The suspect returned the items and received $46.73 in cash from the clerk. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the cash. The suspect, a 29-year-old from Hazel Park was arrested for retail fraud.
