Drunk Driver Arrested In Troy After Falling Asleep Behind Wheel
The driver was coming from a bar and fell asleep on John R Road, to which his jeep was blocking traffic.
TROY, MI — A drunk driver was arrested Wednesday after falling asleep behind the wheel on John R Road, Troy Police said.
The 53-year-old Oak Park man was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol and Carrying a Concealed Pistol While Under the Influence of Alcohol, police said.
Officers said they responded to reports of a red 2013 Jeep Station Wagon parked in the northbound lanes of John R Road at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night, police said.

The jeep was blocking traffic and had its lights turned off, police said.

As officers woke the man, he told them he was coming from a bar in Royal Oak and was on his way back to Detroit, police said.
Officers said the man's eyes were glazed and watery and there was an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. They also said the man had difficulty finding his registration and insurance, but did note he was holding a Michigan CPL card.
The man told officers he had a handgun, in which police found a loaded Glock Model 23 .40 caliber handgun in the driver’s front waistband and an additional 22 round magazine in his left cargo pocket, police said.
The man then failed a sobriety test and submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .137%, police said.
He was then arrested and transported to the Troy Police Lock-Up Facility where he agreed to submit to a Chemical Breath Test with results of .11% and .11%.
