Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: Oct. 24-25, 2012

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. This information may be edited for clarity or style. Note: In Michigan, the Blood Alcohol Content legal limit is .08 percent.
I-75 and Long Lake, 12:45 am, Oct. 26, 2012.
A Troy officer observed a vehicle with an expired license plate and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop for two miles despite the patrol vehicles’ activated emergency lights and siren. When the vehicle did stop, the officer observed a baggie containing what appeared to be crack cocaine on the driver’s seat. Narcotic paraphernalia was found in the driver’s backpack. Additionally, the Pickford resident had a suspended driver’s license, a Friend of Court arrest warrant, and two outstanding narcotic related misdemeanor arrest warrants. The 37-year-old male was arrested for “Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer,” “Possession of Crack Cocaine,” “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia,” “Driving While License Suspended” and the three outstanding arrest warrants. He has a lengthy criminal history and one previous conviction for Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer. A 28-year-old female from Mio, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested and charged with “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.”

John R and Rountree, 7:39 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2012
Troy officers were dispatched to a non-injury accident in which the occupants of the vehicle that had been struck were reporting that the at-fault driver who had sideswiped the other vehicle. The Troy resident smelled of intoxicants and had poor coordination. After failing sobriety tests the male, 60, was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated.” Breath tests were .20 percent.

1-75 and Long Lake, 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 25
While monitoring I-75 traffic, a Troy officer observed a vehicle pull onto the shoulder of the expressway and stop. The officer activated his emergency lights and pulled behind the stopped vehicle to see if the motorists needed help. The driver said he stopped because he thought he had a low tire. He smelled of intoxicants and had slightly slurred speech. The officer administered sobriety tests, which the Bloomfield Hills resident, age 52, failed. A crack pipe was found in the vehicle and the driver was charged with “Operating While Intoxicated” and “Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.” Breath tests were .10 percent.
Wattles & Virgilia, 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 25
A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle after observing it cross over lane markers both to the left and right. The driver had glassy eyes and smelled very strongly of intoxicants. The 24-year-old Rochester woman failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated”. Breath test results were .14%.
