Elementary singers bring love of music to patients at Beaumont Children's Hospital
Detroit Country Day School Junior School Singers to "Share the Music, Share the Love" with special performance at children's hospital
It was an inspirational day at Beaumont Children’s Hospital in Royal Oak, when the 25-member Junior School Singers group from Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) brought their love of music to children in long-term care, hospital visitors and staff with a special performance.
The fourth and fifth grade singers performed songs of love, peace, perseverance and fun, such as “Over the Rainbow,” “Wade in the Water,” “Ode to Peace,” and “We Shall Overcome.” Additionally, the group brought cupcakes from Taste Love Cupcakes in Royal Oak, which donated 150 cupcakes for the DCDS students to sell as a fundraiser to the hospital.
“This performance allowed our students to bring our love of music to children who cannot leave the hospital,” said Roxana Han, Junior School Singers director and music teacher. “I felt it was important for our singers to perform outside of the school setting, in a place with significance in our community. The Children’s Hospital was a warm venue directed at a perfect audience. This experience has opened our students’ eyes and encouraged them to think about others who have serious challenges in their lives.”

DCDS places a strong focus on character development and good citizenship in the community. By bringing fourth and fifth grade students to sing at the Children’s Hospital, the children will not only bring cheer to young patients, but will also learn how to get involved and to give back to their community.
