End-of-the-Summer Dog Paddling this Weekend

Two Oakland County waterparks open for pooch-only swims Saturday and Sunday. Prizes will be given for "best wet look" and "best swimsuit."

An end-of-the-summer ritual for man’s best friend will take place at a couple of Oakland County waterparks this weekend.

Dog swims are planned Saturday at Waterford Oaks Waterpark and on Sunday at Red Oaks Waterpark, Oakland County Parks and Recreation said in a news release. Both swims take place from noon-5 p.m.

Dog-only swimming sessions are divided according to dog’s weight and run every hour for 55 minutes starting at noon. Dogs may be registered for one time slot only. Space is limited. Prizes will be awarded for the “best wet look” and “best swimsuit” contests.

Onsite registration is $15 dog. The cost includes a doggie bag with a gift for the owner, parking, entry, one 55-minute swim session for dogs only and contest entry (all based on space and availability).

Owners must show a valid Michigan dog license and proof of vaccinations at the time of event.

The dog swims are sponsored by Camp Bow Wow, Clarkston, Commerce and Troy locations.
