Four TSD Middle School Students Qualify for State Geography Bee
Each year thousands of students in schools across the United States participate in the National Geographic GeoBee for a chance to compete for the title of GeoBee National Champion, which comes with a $25,000 scholarship, $1,000 in cash, and a trip to Galapagos Islands. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world, and increase public awareness about geography.
100 students across the state of Michigan qualified for the state competition, which will take place at the Fetzer Center at Western Michigan in Kalamazoo on March 27, and four of them were from the Troy School District: Siddharth Karthikeyan (8, Baker), Atul Ganesh (6, Boulan Park), Jack Kennedy (8, Larson) and Grant Sobata (7, Smith).
One champion from each state and territory will advance to the National Geographic GeoBee Championship, which will be held May 18-21 in Washington, D.C.
