Hamilton Elementary PTA Raises Nearly $18,000 Through Jog-A-Thon

The Troy school's Parent Teachers Association netted a record amount with the help of local businesses.

Whoever thought jogging would be so lucrative?

The Hamilton Elementary PTA (Parent Teacher Association) netted $17,886.20 through their first Jog-A-Thon, Oct. 4. The money raised will be used by the PTA to fund assemblies, help with teacher grants, and to purchase supplements for the classroom.

Students ran 3,711 laps or almost 750 miles. Several area businesses, as well as families, contributed to the stellar amount raised. Several prizes were donated to motivate runners to raise funds, including a baseball autographed by Detroit Tiger Miguel Cabrera, donated by the Tigers.

The PTA even started their own Facebook page to keep runners excited about the event.

“This Jog-A-Thon was a community effort- and a community success,” said event chairperson Katie Mowrey. “This event is definately worth repeating. We’ll be back on the track next fall.”
