Hamilton Elementary Sends Stockings, Support to Overseas Military

Veteran’s Day is taking on a special meaning for the students and staff of Hamilton Elementary School this year and they are asking for the community’s help. Second and fifth graders will be writing cards and creating and filling stockings for Army soldiers who won’t be home for the holidays. This project hits close to home because Hamilton teacher Mrs. Suzanne Miller’s son--4th Infantry Division Army Sergeant Grant Miller—is currently serving overseas since April. His unit will still be there over Thanksgiving and Christmas (plus his 26th birthday) and won’t be coming back to the states until sometime in February. Sgt. Miller is also a Troy Schools graduate of Wass Elementary, Larson Middle and Athens High Schools.

So NEXT FRIDAY, November 16, students will be sewing stockings and packing them with an assortment of goodies, sure to put a smile on each soldier’s face. The fabric and yarn have been provided, and Hamilton will gratefully accept donated goodies, in individually wrapped packaging:

  • Airheads

All items need to be individually wrapped. (Example, instead of a big box of Cheezits, bring in a big package of Cheezits that have snack size packages inside.) Hamilton students look forward to making lots of stockings and sharing support and smiles with our brave troops.
