He’s Not With Her: Anti-Hillary Clinton Sign Stolen 3 Times in Troy

"The message was bold, and yes, we are very aware that it was tacky," homeowner says, "but that was the point."

TROY, MI — A Troy homeowner has filed a police report after his anti-Hillary Clinton yard sign was stolen for a third time.

Not only that, the homeowner said, a lawn-killing chemical of some sort was poured on his yard in the 2000 block of Cheswick Drive. He has also received an anonymous letter protesting his political protest signs, according to a news release from the Troy Police Department.

His signs weren’t profane, but did have a play-on-words phrase — “Huck Fillary” — but the meaning was implied, Tom Moran said.

“We posted a political sign to express our right to free speech,” Moran told WXYZ-TV. “The message was bold, and yes, we are very aware it was tacky, but that was the point.”

Moran said that after the second sign disappeared, city officials told him it violated city code. He put another Plexiglas-encased sign that met the code requirements, but it disappeared as well.

Moran’s “big issue” is what he sees as an attempt to infringe on his right to free speech.

“Free speech to me is about content you might not agree with,” Moran told the TV station.

Moran says he’s not sure he will put up a fourth sign, but has planted one showing his support for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.
