While we get to play, swing, dance, and otherwise eat, drink, and be merry on a Sunday afternoon in June there will be untold thousands of men, women, and children living in some form of modern day enslavement. Although difficult to comprehend, It’s that dirty little secret that gets to see the light of day only when a group of folks have the stomach to tangle with forced prostitution, domestic servitude, and other types of coerced labor.
The Michigan Abolitionist Project (MAP) is just that group and we labor to address human trafficking on a local level through education, awareness, and victim advocacy. Hard to believe, but it’s not just a condition of thirdworld countries it happens around the world as well as right here in Michigan. And that’s totally unacceptable by anyone’s standards.
What would be acceptable is showing support — financial and otherwise — for MAP as they do the difficult work of trying to prevent, and end, human trafficking. But you get to have a good time doing so at the Pontiac Crofoot as they host two terrific bands for your listening and dancing please: LL7 and GGO — also known as pianist Lynne LaPlante’s Latin band and Gary Greenfelder Orchestra swing band. Funds raised will help MAP as they work together with Common Ground of Oakland County, to open up Chandler House, the first residential home for trafficking survivors in Southeast Michigan!

This event includes will be precluded with a presentation at 2pm by Common Ground about Chandler House. This home will focus specifically on the needs of adult survivors of human trafficking.
