"Log Off & Lace Up!" is BACK to Encourage Health and Fitness
It’s March here in the TSD and that means it’s time to “Log Off & Lace Up!” to Encourage Health and Fitness! Back by popular demand, our TSD Elementary physical education teachers are once again holding this virtual run as a way to limit screen time and encourage physical exercise. This year, their focus is on all of us taking a break from our devices (cell phones, computers, video games, social media…) and encouraging children, teens and adults to get some exercise to improve physical and mental health.
Last year’s first-ever Log Off & Lace Up (LOLU) was a huge success, as participants in Troy, across the USA and even around the world joined in, virtually, to get moving! This year’s event will not only include running and walking but biking and hiking too. So put down your devices, grab your friends and family members and get out and MOVE! Run, walk, bike or hike--- a virtual 1-Mile, 2-Mile or 5K run/walk that ALL students, families and staff can participate in. “Exercise is incredibly important, not just for physical but for mental health,” said Bemis PE teacher Sarah Redden.
Our “virtual run” is where folks have the opportunity to sign up for FREE and choose from several suggested routes including the tracks at Troy Athens and Troy High tracks and at all 4 of our Middle School (Baker, Boulan, Larson & Smith). You can choose routes at many Troy parks, including Jaycee, Firefighters, and Raintree among several others, and several trails including at the Troy Stage Nature Center and the Sylvan Glen golf course. You choose the route, and then walk/run it on your own time and at your own pace. Feeling a little out of shape? You can even set up an online training plan, in order to get in shape for your very own virtual run/walk.
