Macy's Make-a-Wish Holiday Effort Brightens Day for Michigan Sisters

Girls have rare condition which requires IV hookup and are wishing for a trip to Disney World.

(Posted Nov. 11, 2016) TROY, MI — Alexys and Alayna Wilson, two southeast Michigan sisters who have a rare medical condition, had a staring role Nov. 4 when they rode in Santa's sleigh in Macy's kicked off the holiday season with fireworks and other fun activities, The Troy Times reported. Alexys, 7, and Alayna, 5, have been diagnosed with trichohepatoenteric syndrome, a condition that compromises their bodies' ability to absorb nutrients and requires nightly IV hookups and regular trips to the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

The condition is so rare doctors can't offer a prognosis, the girls' mother, Malissa, told The Times.

A social worker at the hospital hooked the family up with Make-A-Wish Michigan, which teamed with the Macy’s Believe campaign to make the sleigh ride possible.
