A Sterling Heights man was arrested after police said they caught him with drugs when people reported his odd behavior outside the hotel.

TROY, MI — A Sterling Heights man is in trouble after police caught him with drugs when people reported his strange behavior outside the Troy Marriott, police said.

The 40-year-old man was charged with drug possession and taken to the Troy Police Lock-up facility. Officials did not release his name.

On Feb. 13, officers responded to the Troy Marriott on West Big Beaver Road at 11 p.m. after people reported a suspicious person driving through the hotel's parking lot taking photos of vehicle license plates and yelling at hotel guests, police said.

Hotel security told police the man was driving a 2022 Chevy Tahoe, which officers found entering a turnaround on Big Beaver the wrong way and began driving eastbound in the westbound lanes, police said.

Officers then stopped the man driving the SUV and said he "made multiple incoherent statements to officers that he was being followed and listened to via his cell phone."

The man then gave officers permission to grab his driver's license from the center console, police said.

When officers opened the center console, they found a glass meth pipe, police said.

Officers then searched the SUV and found "suspected narcotics," which the driver told officers was either meth or cocaine, police said.
