Michael Drelles, D.O. brings pain medicine services to Wayne State University Physician Group

Wayne State University Physician Group patients now have access to specialized pain medicine services with the addition of Michael Drelles, D.O. to the practice group. Dr. Drelles will perform pain procedures at the Troy-based Maple Surgery Center.

Dr. Drelles provides a multidisciplinary approach for patients suffering from acute and chronic pain. Pain services include medication management, epidural injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal drug delivery, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty and discograms.

Interventional pain management benefits individuals whose pain is persistent, those who find medication is becoming less effective, individuals who wish to treat pain without medication, or patients seeking surgical alternatives. Pain services can be beneficial those with lower back or neck pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, headaches or cancer pain.

Dr. Drelles has special interests in complex regional pain syndrome, spinal cord stimulation, and helping his patients maximize health and wellness through diet and exercise. His comprehensive care utilizes several different approaches such as physical therapy, pain psychology, medication management and interventional therapy.

After graduating from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University, Dr. Drelles went on to complete a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Michigan where he found his passion for the treatment of pain. He then completed a post-doctoral fellowship in interventional pain medicine at the University of California Davis in Sacramento.

Dr. Drelles is double board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both pain medicine and anesthesiology. He also serves as an expert review consultant for the State of Michigan Bureau of Health Care Services.

Office consultations with Dr. Drelles are held at 3058 Metropolitan Parkway, Suite 208 in Sterling Heights with interventional pain procedures being conducted at the Maple Surgery Center located at 1420 Stephenson Highway in Troy.
